Sylly Sunday - Meet your inner two year old!

Another new item on this blog! (I will post a comprehensive list of all the blog topics soon!)

My inner two year old is at the core of everything I do. I take a playful approach on everything and mostly on my creativity. Ever since I connected with my inner two year old, I transformed myself.

For years I was afraid to publish or submit any of my writing or share any of my artwork. Now I do it fearlessly.

Here is a very brief instruction (from my soon to arrive free e-book Playful Mind maps) on how you can connect with your inner two year old. In my upcoming book Playful Creativity there is a whole chapter dedicated to connecting with her.

(Note: in the text below I will use the female form. I am a woman after all. Just read “he” if you are male.)

Sit down in a nice spot, and close your eyes for a moment. Visualize yourself as a two year old. See the little one standing there.
  • What does she wear?
  • What is her character?
  • What does she love?
  • What makes her giggle?
  • What does she want to explore?
Take your time to visualize her, and write down anything that comes up. Nothing is too silly or strange. Your inner two year old is there to teach you what she wants you to learn about her, and she is there to teach you whatever she can to help you engage her strengths. She’s smart, and she knows what you need.

Reconnecting with this amazing part of yourself can truly ignite a spark in you. She is there to help you reignite your creativity and your joy. Like any two year old, she is always happy to get distracted with shiny toys and grabs every opportunity for a good giggle.

Now you have connected with her, look at an aspect of your life you feel stuck at, or at some writing that just doesn't want to work.

Look at it through her eyes. How can you change it?

Write a silly story where your inner two year old interacts with one of your characters.

Saturday Reflections - Pain is a monster

Another new weekly item on my blog, a poem combined with my art work, tentatively called Saturday Reflections. Appears every Saturday.

My poetry is often deep and soulful. When I started to be a playful creative, my poetry deepened and became so healing. This is why I share my poetry and art here.

This week I bring you a poem that brewed in me this past week. On Thursday I sat down and wrote it in one go. . This is how poetry always gets written for me, through percolation. The artwork is one I made last year, called the pain monster.

#fridayflash - weather

Morwenna truly meant well. She had intended to create a sun-drenched summer, with rain from 1 am until 3 am every other day to please the farmers, and a soft breeze to tickle the skin on the bi-weekly hot days.
She sneezed, half way through the spell. It collapsed in a flurry of purple sparks. Moments later rain drummed on her roof, storm picked up rapidly, tapping the window with the thin branches of her willow tree.
She shivered at the sudden temperature drop and ran upstairs to grab a cardigan. Autumn. All summer. This would not stand. The villagers might feel inclined to study the ways of the Spanish Inquisition, especially with the disaster at Christmas fresh in their memories. She had no choice. She walked downstairs and tried the spell again.
The blizzard started  a minute later.

#fridayflash - Moon

(this flash piece is part of the Rabbit universe, click the tag for more stories on him)

Rabbit hated the full moon. Full moon brought craziness. Full moon brought danger.
He'd already chased five pixies out of the garden, and the moon was not at its full power yet.
He looked at Joe, who slept with his arm around his teddy bear, snoring slightly. Only seven years old the boy was, and already his power showed. Too soon. Rabbit licked his paw and stared at the door.
Only four more hours to go.
A raven shrieked on the roof.
More prey.
Rabbit sauntered off the bed and looked out into the garden. Two pixies lurked underneath the hydrangeas. Brave lads. He licked his chops, and jumped out of the window. He landed right in front of the two vigilantes. Cyan pixies. He choked at the thought of having to eat them, they tasted like death.
"Hello lads."
The pixies stared up at him and shuddered. One of them moved forward. Even braver pixie. "Rabbit. We did not know you stood vigil over the boy."
Rabbit felt a purry giggle roar in his chest. "The strongest Magician the world has yet seen... Who else would be here?"
The pixie in the front bowed. He said, "I am utterly and completely sorry, Rabbit. This will never happen again."
Rabbit just sat down and washed his ear. "Scram. Tell your friends."
The pixies scrambled out of the garden. Rabbit signed and rolled in the grass. Wings flapped. He gazed at the huge raven sitting next to him. "Commander."
The raven bowed. "Guardian. Any requests?"
"Just keep vigilant."
The raven bowed and flew up to the roof again, giving orders in that awful raspy voice of his.
Only 3 hours and 50 minutes to go, and then an hour of sleep tops before the boy would wake and demand play.
Rabbit signed dramatically as he put his head on his paws and stared, menacingly, into the garden.
